UNVEILING DIVINATION: WHY JESUS CAME

Aps. Johnny Lartey Peprah (Assistant Registrar – Pentecost School of Theology and Missions)

What is the true purpose of Jesus’ coming to earth? This timeless question found divine clarity as Apostle Johnny Lartey Peprah, the Assistant Registrar of the Pentecost School of Theology and Missions, expounded the theme “Divination,” a theological word meaning the purpose of Jesus’ coming on earth.

Drawing from 1 Corinthians 15:1–7, Apostle Peprah explained that Paul sought to reaffirm the authenticity of the gospel after noticing false teachings among believers. He stressed that believing in a false gospel endangers one’s salvation, warning, “If you believe in false gospel, you will not make it to heaven.” He urged Christians to remain grounded in the Word of God, for it alone has authority over all creation. He further revealed that in the Word is Zoe, the life of God and within that Zoe is Phos, the light that shines on our lives. Establishing this truth, he encouraged the congregation to think the Word, live the Word, and talk the Word.

Continuing, Apostle Peprah outlined the foundation of the gospel message and the purpose of Jesus’ coming to earth. He explained that Jesus came to die for humanity, was buried, and in His death descended into the abyss, where He conquered the devil. He then rose on the third day, securing eternal victory for all believers.

Building on this, Apostle Peprah declared that Christians do not die but rather sleep, for the resurrection of Christ is the assurance that all who believe in Him will rise again from their sleep.

Apostle Peprah went on to teach about life after death, affirming that if there were no resurrection of the dead, the gospel would collapse. But since Christ indeed rose, believers must set their focus on the eternal life promised by God. He described this life as one in which our mortal bodies will be transformed, and we will be endowed with divine capabilities, for through the blood of Jesus, he explained, reconciliation has been achieved, restoring our relationship with God.

Concluding the sermon, Apostle Peprah shared what he called the ABCD of Salvation, a simple yet profound pathway to experiencing new life in Christ. He explained that we must first ACCEPT Jesus as Lord and Saviour, which leads to true repentance BELIEVING which grants access to God and righteousness. CONFESSING with the mouth ushers us into salvation, where we are washed, anointed, promoted, and metamorphosed as revealed in 2 Corinthians 3:18. Finally, he urged believers to DEMONSTRATE and live out the new life that Christ freely offers, walking daily in the reality of redemption.
