DISCIPLESHIP: A RESPONSIBILITY FOR ALL

Eld. Collum Appiadjei (President)

Why the need for discipleship? This was the striking question that set the tone for the semester’s theme as the PENSA President, Elder Collum Appiadjei, ministered on “Unleashed to Make Disciples in Your Generation.” He affirmed that discipleship is not a suggestion but a command from Jesus Christ, a divine mandate that expands God’s Kingdom, strengthens the Church, and prepares believers for eternal life.

Elder Collum laid the foundation of his message from the story of Genesis, recounting how man lost God’s glory through disobedience. Though created in God’s image to have dominion and eternal life, sin caused this privilege to fade. Yet, in His mercy and compassion, God sought to restore what was lost through Jesus Christ, who came to reconcile humanity back to God. Knowing His time on earth was short, Jesus chose twelve disciples, trained them to continue His redemptive mission, and entrusted them to carry the message of the Cross to every generation, fulfilling God’s desire that all people might know Him (Judges 2:10).

Elder Collum charged the congregation that the Church exists to make disciples. To make disciples, he explained, is to know Christ personally and help others know Him, His teachings, His life, and His love. He encouraged believers to live Christlike lives, noting that people learn more from what they see than what they hear. He emphasized that disciple-making involves sharing the message of salvation, teaching and guiding others, building loving relationships, praying with and for them, and depending fully on the Holy Spirit for direction and power.

In conclusion, Elder Collum reminded believers that discipleship fuels the growth of the Church and deepens believers’ walk with God, making them effective witnesses of Christ. He passionately called on the entire Church to carry the message of the Cross wherever they go, urging every believer to make Jesus known and to raise disciples in their generation, fulfilling Christ’s command and advancing His Kingdom on earth.
